We need your help to stop Sainsbury’s from blocking our proposals to redevelop the former Arla Dairy site in South Ruislip. Our plans were approved in October 2014 and we are due to start construction on site in less than 2 months’ time.
In October 2014 Hillingdon Council planning committee voted unanimously to approve our exciting plans to redevelop the former Arla Dairy site in South Ruislip. We are committed to deliver a new 11-screen cinema, 132 new homes, family restaurants, a new Asda supermarket, petrol filling station and create over 530 local jobs. All of which represents an investment of £100million in South Ruislip.
In January 2015 a Sainsbury’s spokesman confirmed they would be commencing proceedings to legally challenge the council’s legitimate decision to approve the plans. If the challenge proceeds it will delay the regeneration by many months and will cost local taxpayers many tens of thousands of pounds in legal fees.
Why are they doing this? Sainsbury’s want to block the regeneration of the whole Arla Dairy site to protect their own supermarket. A supermarket which for eight years they have been promising shoppers they would extend and improve. But after several successful planning consents they have done nothing and have been content to maintain their congested store due to the monopoly they currently enjoy in South Ruislip. Sainsbury’s are afraid of competition.
